Dog Ear Mites

We all love our dogs and hate to see them suffer from any irritation with their ears.  Ear mites get into your dogs ears and will never leave.  There is a way to relieve the irritation however.

Ear mites will lay their eggs in the dog’s ear canal.  They may even spread to the areas around their ears, in the fur, causing more itching and irritation.

Cats are more prone to getting ear mites than dogs are.  But they can be a risk for your dog.  Ear mites are extremely contagious, so it is crucial to treat if you see any sign, especially if you have more than one pet at home.

There are several diseases that can be caused by ear mites in dogs.  This is another reason that seeing a vet promptly is so important.  The health of your canine is of utmost importance and better to take the chance in your pets favor.

If you look into your dog’s ear, you will notice a crusty residue and there may be some white spots as well.  If you see anything that resembles this description, as well as scratching and shaking their head, there is a good chance of canine ear mites.

Your dog may develop canine ear mites on his skin.  If this is the case, flea products can take care of it.  But if the ear mites are in the ear canal, your only option is to have a vet prescribe oral medication such as Fironil, Thiabendazole, or Ivermectins.  Or he may give your dog one of these medications through injection.

These pesky little ear mites multiply quickly and will spread to the rest of your dog’s body.  If you have the slightest feeling that you dog may have ear mites, then get him to the vet.

If he does, he will hopefully get it treated in time before it does spread.  You will want to do whatever is needed to keep your dog from suffering from this awful pest.
