Common Cures for Ear Mites in Cats

There are many types of common cures for ear mites in cats. There are injections, oral medication and topical treatments. But ear mites can spread to the entire body, not just the cat’s ears. This is when treatments such as Frontline are very effective. It has been proven that this will not only kill fleas, but ear mites as well.
Topical treatments do not kill the ear mite eggs; they only affect the adult mites. This is why they are used for about a month to treat them. As long as your cat has ear mites, the treatment will need to be prolonged, at least for the entire life cycle of the mite.
Other topical treatments for cats are used when there is inflammation or infection. These are referred to as secondary effects that are caused by the ear mites. The types of treatments contain antibiotics and can be used over a shorter period of time, as they are stronger than the original topical treatment. This product is called Tresaderm and will get rid of the ear mites.
There is another common cure for ear mites, but the FDA has not yet approved it. Many vets will still use this to treat ear mites in cats. It is a medication called Ivermectin and it is injected in the cat. The cat will need to be treated 2 to 4 times until the ear mites are destroyed.
Frontline has been the most successful in treating ear mites without the use of medications and injections. But this needs to be done early on in the game. If you are already using this product, chances are your cat may never have to deal with ear mites. It would be a preventative measure and give you and your cat peace of knowing this will never be a problem.
But you need to remember, before trying any common cures for your cat to treat your cat, have your vet check him for any other problems that could be affecting his ears. Build up in the ears must be removed prior to any treatment.
There will be a brown, crusty buildup left by the ear mites that has to be removed. This is not something you should try yourself, it is difficult and needs to be done professionally to protect your cat’s ears.
This is a very irritating and uncomfortable condition for your cat. But the common cures for ear mites and making it so much easier for you as a cat owner. Hopefully one day there will be a cure and cats will no longer suffer from this.
